Cairns Corporate Volunteering Day
Around 30 staff, partners and kids attended Cairns' first corporate volunteering day, held on Sunday 11th October, 2009 in conjunction with Trinity Inlet Catchment Management Assoc Inc (as Sponsor for Cairns Urban Landcare).
Located at the corner of Wiseman Road West and Walker Road, Edmonton on McKinnon Creek, the project is part of Trinity Inlet Creeks Revegetation programme which began in the Edmonton area twelve years ago.
Laboratory Manager, Peggy Sowden and staff member, Michelle Wallace reported: "Our landcare day was a complete success.
All trees were planted within a short time and all had a good time doing it.
The day was a perfect tree planting day - overcast with a light sprinkling of rain so that we were kept relatively cool.
A 100metre x 40 metre plot was planted with 700 trees.
I'm sure we all feel that this little piece of Cairns is our area with our trees and hope the long hot summer will not be too harsh as these trees try to get established.
We had a BBQ afterwards at a pool / waterslide complex which was a great reward for all!"
