Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology (SNP) recognizes we have a legal
responsibility for ensuring the heath and safety of staff and other
persons is not affected by the conduct of our Practice. Providing
and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment is part of that
Every year, about 19,000 Australians die from diseases caused by
smoking and about one third of these deaths occur in middle age.
One in two lifetime smokers will die from smoking.
In Queensland, there are on average an estimated 3,402 deaths
per year attributable to tobacco smoking.
Our bottom line is no-one should be working in any premises
where smoking is permitted, or into which it drifts.
Who is affected by the Policy
This policy applies to all people who enter SNP property
including managers, staff, contractors, visitors and patients.
All SNP premises are smoke free All SNP premises
are smoke free - but are not limited to the following:
• buildings (including corridors, passageways, walkways and

Managers will be trained in how to enforce the policy.
Any person smoking will politely be asked to stop and reminded
about the smoke free environment policy. If the offence continues,
a second verbal warning will be issued. If this warning is ignored,
a penalty will be issued and repeated breaches may lead to

This policy will be effective from 7th April 2010.
This policy will be reviewed on an annual basis to ensure
that the policy is sustained, effective and up to date.
