Dr Corrine Wallace is a consultant histopathologist at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, Cairns. She has experience in a broad range of general pathology with a particular interest in dermatopathology.
After graduating with a BSc (Biomed) in 2000, Dr Wallace studied medicine at The University of Queensland, graduating in 2004. She then undertook a medical internship and residency in her home town of Cairns, working at the Cairns Base Hospital.
Wishing to pursue a career in a regional community she went on to train in general pathology in Brisbane. The challenging five-year course includes anatomical pathology, haematology, microbiology and clinical chemistry.
Dr Wallace was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia at the end of 2011 and joined Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology's Townsville laboratory in early 2012.
In 2015, she moved with her family to Perth where she worked at Clinipath Pathology, part of Sonic Healthcare Group. There, she gained a depth of experience across many areas including dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology and breast pathology.
In 2020, Dr Wallace returned to Cairns, taking up a position with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology. She is an active member of her local community attending regular interdisciplinary clinical meetings with colleagues in clinical, surgical and imaging specialities. She has a particular interest in pathology education having been closely involved in programs in Brisbane and Townsville.
She holds memberships of the Australasian Division of the International Academy of Pathology, the Australasian Dermatopathology Society, and the Australasian Gastrointestinal Pathology Society.
Recently, Dr Wallace was awarded the prestigious International Board Certificate in Dermatopathology. A maximum of only 35 applicants are accepted worldwide each year to sit for the stringent three-part examination, which is organised under the auspices of the International Committee for Dermatopathology (ICDP) and the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
