Dr Iram Naaz is a consultant histopathologist at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, Cairns where she reports across all areas of histopathology with a special interest in dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology and gynaecological pathology.
After graduating with distinction in Medicine from the Government Medical College, University of Kashmir in 2006, Dr Naaz in 2007 went on to post graduate specialist training in pathology at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, India and was awarded MD in Pathology in 2010. Later that year, she moved to Australia where she briefly worked as a lecturer at the Graduate School of Medicine, University of Wollongong. Following that she undertook advanced training in anatomical pathology and haematopathology at the John Hunter Hospital, Newcastle. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 2015.
Dr Naaz joined Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology in Townsville in 2016 gaining experience across many areas of surgical pathology including gastrointestinal pathology, gynaecological, genitourinary and breast pathology. She moved to Cairns in 2017 where she developed a further interest in dermatopathology. Dr Naaz is adding to her skin reporting skills by undertaking a professional certificate of dermatoscopy for pathologists.
She is an active member of her local medical community attending regular interdisciplinary clinical meetings with colleagues in clinical, surgical and imaging specialities and has presented at the Cairns Gastroenterology Education Club which convenes to discuss noteworthy cases and other clinical/surgical gastroenterology updates. She is also involved in the SNP skin education seminars for general practitioners.
She holds memberships of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society, the Australasian Gastrointestinal Pathology Society and the Australasian Division of the International Academy of Pathology. She also regularly attends conferences.
Dr Naaz enjoys working in a regional practice and the opportunities it provides for close working relationships with clinicians.
