Dr Irene Krajewska graduated from The Manchester University in 1978. After five years of FRCS surgical training in the UK and South Australia, in 1986 she undertook training in anatomical pathology at the IMVS in Adelaide. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in 1990.
Specialising in GIT, gynaepathology and cytology under Professor Svante Orell, she gained Fellowship of the International Academy of Cytology in 1991.
Dr Krajewska was an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists and Australian Society of Cytology from 1990 until 2002.
She has been based on the Sunshine Coast in our Birtinya Laboratory since joining SNP in 2003. She held the position of Pathologist-In-Charge from 2004 to 2018. She continues to have interests in FNA cytology, breast, dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology and gynaepathology.
Dr Krajewska works closely with radiology companies on the Sunshine Coast, frequently performing on-site FNA screening for their patients. She also continues to perform in-house FNAs on patients with palpable lesions at our Birtinya Laboratory.
She has set up on-site screening and diagnosis at the Breast Clinic, Buderim Private Hospital (BPH), as well as within a local private surgical breast and thyroid clinic, also at Buderim Private Hospital.
Working closely with surgeons at the Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital (SCUPH), she actively participates in intra-operative frozen section analysis, and attends regular multidisciplinary oncology and breast meetings at the SCUPH and BPH.
She served three years on the Medical Advisory Committee of the SCUPH and is a long-term committee member of the East Coast Women's Centre/Nambour Day Surgery since 2007.
In her spare time, she likes to keep physically active with regular gym activities, road and mountain bike riding, and bush walking. She is proud of being a Tough Mudder and having also conquered Mount Kilimanjaro (5990m). She also skis and is a Canadian level 2 qualified ski instructor.
Her love of global travel, wildlife and photography has made her a Level 6 Trip Advisor Contributor with a current readership of over 125,000. She is also a regular content contributor on the travel website Travel2Next.com with more than 80 published travel and wildlife adventure internet-based articles.
