Dr Lisa Wilkinson is a histopathologist at Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology's main laboratory in Brisbane as a member of the skin pathology team where she reports across all areas of dermatopathology.
Dr Wilkinson studied medical science at The Queensland University of Technology. During this time, she spent a year at one of the world's leading tertiary medical centres, the The Karolinska Institute, Sweden. She went on to study medicine at The University of Queensland, graduating in 2008 before undertaking an internship and residency at The Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital. She then went on to pursue an interest in anatomical pathology and undertook further specialist training, rotating as a registrar through several hospitals and laboratories in Southeast Queensland. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia in February 2018.
Dr Wilkinson has a long association with SNP having first joined in 2003 while a student. She worked part-time in the microbiology department throughout her undergraduate years and then later, as an anatomical pathology registrar, she returned to undertake some of her training with the practice.
Although while a medical resident she considered working in clinical practice, her decision to pursue a career in pathology was greatly influenced by her experience at SNP. She chose dermatopathology because of the great variety of pathology that can affect the skin. She enjoys the challenge that anatomical pathology provides and finds it particularly rewarding being able to correlate the clinical information with the pathology to solve a case. It is a speciality that broadly encompasses all aspects of medicine.
