Dr Nigel Buxton is a forensic pathologist and histopathologist who is Pathologist-in-Charge of Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology's Rockhampton laboratory.
In addition to his work with Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology, Dr Buxton provides a full forensic pathology service to Central Queensland between Bundaberg and Mackay and west to Winton. He has particular expertise in edged weapon wounds and provides professional opinion to the Queensland Police Service across the State.
Dr Buxton has a long commitment to sharing his expert knowledge with others. He lectures at police conferences and to hospitals on matters related to the Coroners' Act and other forensic subjects. He has a particular interest in paediatric pathology because of personal experience, and helps provide support for families whose babies and children have died suddenly. He has also lectured on paediatric forensic pathology to several Indian forensic pathology associations.
Dr Buxton graduated in medicine from St Thomas' Hospital, London, in 1974. He underwent further training in pathology in the West Yorkshire Regional Pathology program and had the privilege of assisting in some of the "Yorkshire Ripper" cases. He became involved in paediatric forensics while working in West Yorkshire and migrating to Australia from the UK in 1985, he further developed this interest when working in regional Victoria.
He joined SNP in 2004 and finds work as a regional pathologist, where there is opportunity for close community involvement, especially satisfying.
