Adult collection

One specimen can be submitted for microbiology testing/faeces PCR testing (including faeces enteropathogen and/or Clostridium difficile PCR testing) or faecal calprotectin testing.

Step 1 Obtain a faeces collection container from your nearest Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology
collection centre. For your nearest collection centre, please refer to your request form, visit our Collection Centre Locations, or telephone Patient Services Support on 1300 732 030.

Step 2 Place a clean receptacle into the toilet bowl and use this to catch your faeces.

Step 3 Use the scoop on the underside of the collection container lid to collect a sample of faeces about 2.5cm (1 inch) in diameter. Place this sample in the collection container and dispose of the remaining faeces in the toilet.

Step 4 Please note you must store your sample at the temperature the SNP collector has advised.

Step 5 Bring the sample to your nearest Collection Centre without delay.

Collecting a child's faeces

Step 1 Obtain a faeces collection container from your nearest Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology
collection centre. For your nearest Collection Centre, please refer to your request form, visit our Collection Centre Locations, or telephone Patient Services Support on 1300 732 030.

Step 2 After obtaining the container, place a small piece of Glad Wrap, Chux cloth, or fresh nappy liner in your baby’s nappy. (It is very important that you obtain a fresh sample and not one that is already in the nappy.)

IMPORTANT!

  • Make sure the Glad Wrap, Chux cloth, or nappy liner is not left next to your baby’s skin for too long. Remove it as soon as you have collected the sample.
  • Do not send Glad Wrap, Chux, or nappy liner to the Collection Centre with the faeces sample.

Step 3 Once your baby has passed some faeces, collect an amount about the size of a 20-cent piece using the scoop on the underside of the container lid.

Step 4 Please note you must store your sample at the temperature the SNP collector has advised.

Step 5 Bring the sample to your nearest Collection Centre without delay.
